The Faith Test
“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
1 Peter 1:6-7
James 1:2-4 explains to us that though we face troubles in this life, trials that test our faith in the Lord, we can count it all joy. For if we are tested, and persevere, it produces endurance. And endurance carves us into what God’s perfect image for us is, complete and lacking nothing.
We also know that our perseverance lies in our hope in God (Romans 5:3-4)
What a great hope we have in the covenant between God and us, His children. The promise of redemption, of being saved from our sins, through our faith. A faith that is provided by the grace of God, who gave himself as Jesus Christ to die, so we might live unbound by the world and for our spirits to live for eternity. Christ is our everlasting hope which will sustain us through the trials and tribulations we must face in this life. Jesus is our hope, our peace, our strength and everything else we need to survive this world. He is our hope for though he was tested as we are, he persevered perfectly without sin and bore the sin of the world for us.
And so trials prove our character, they prove who we are as saints, and refine us in love. A love that increases and overflows into the lives of those around us. “Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.” (Isaiah 48:10)
And we are made perfect in our faith by our reaction to refining. We must react in love to every situation presented to us. For the Holy Spirit has come to equip us with the love that will simplify our every trial and diminish our tribulations.
In the midst of troubles, whether it be death, sickness, debt, or divorce, remember the promise of God to deliver you into abundance. Keep your faith, hope in the Lord, and be refined by love, so that you may become your true self in Christ.
